A Passing Thought

This is something that has been at the back of mind for a long time now, it is a battle that many of us fight, whether or not we admit it to ourselves or in other words, transport it from our subconscious mind into our active thoughts. It is the battle between doing things that we desire to do and believe would bring us happiness and satisfaction, and the fear of society's judgement or what might be said or thought about us. More often than not, I try to convince myself that I'm one of those people who simply don't care about what others think or assume about them, but the truth is, it is almost impossible to stay unaware of the mental reactions that arise from people around you. However, it is in your power to not let it control your mind and prevent you from doing what are really want to do with your life.

"You will become way less concerned with what other people think of you when you realize how seldom they do." - David Foster

Think about it this way: each and every individual whom you interact with has a mind that is home to thoughts and feelings as complex and numerous as your own. Now take a look at your mind, what percentage of it is occupied by thoughts pertaining to the actions of others? I know that as girls we gossip a lot about stuff that happen and things that people do, but at the end of the day, how much do we really care about these arbitrary conversations that we only have for the purpose of passing time? The chances are, unless we are affected by these actions directly, we don't even give them a second thought when we are all alone; we're too preoccupied with our own life and problems to obsess over the lives of others. So, in reality, this illusion of judgement that you allow to take over your mind is false and detrimental. Avoiding being the topic of an arbitrary discussion is not worth sacrificing your desires for, and if there is somebody out there who is so bothered by what you do that they contemplate it outside of these daily conversations and lie awake thinking about it at night then to be honest, it is their issue, not yours and it certainly shouldn't be stopping your from doing anything you wanna do.

At the end of the day, it is your life that we're talking about here, your decisions will impact you and only you. That is the only thing that you should keep in mind.
